Androvax plus dose, vaccination programme and administration information

Increase lamb numbers and overall flock performance with Androvax plus for sheep.

Vaccination Programme:

Recommended vaccination programme for Androvax plus

Unvaccinated breeding sheep should receive 2 shots of Androvax plus vaccine. The first shot 8-10 weeks before mating, and the second booster shot 4 weeks after the initial shot (and not less than 4 weeks before mating).

In subsequent years a single booster shot 4-6 weeks (and not less than 4 weeks) before mating is required.

Using Androvax plus outside of the recommended dosing intervals can reduce the effects of Androvax plus and may increase the number of dry ewes.

Lambing percentage is one of the key drivers of sheep farm profitability.

Androvax plus is a quick, flexible and cost-effective method to fast-track the reproductive performance of your flock, producing an increase in twinning percentages from the season of first use.

Androvax plus can be used when:

1. A farmer needs to rebuild stock numbers quickly

2. Targeting increased lambing % in single bearing ewes

3. Planning to mate and lamb ewes early

4. Lack of flushing feed available in times of feed shortage.

Before using Androvax plus, management strategies need to be in place to ensure:

• the ewes are in good body condition

• there’s going to be enough feed to maintain the ewes through winter and to grow the extra lambs next year

• there is enough feed for the ewes rearing twins to regain their liveweight before the next mating.

When using Androvax plus, ewe scanning is important. If scanning rates are above 150% there is a greater risk of triplets and therefore potential increased lamb losses, so Androvax plus should not be used.

If farmers are experiencing poor reproductive performance (e.g. larger than normal losses between scanning and lambing) they should first consider other causes such as Toxoplasma and Campylobacter prior to use of Androvax plus.

Androvax plus can increase average lambing percentage by 20%

Benefits of vaccination with Androvax plus:

  • Increases lambing percentages by an average of 20% 5
  • An ideal tool to consider after a period of drought when stocking rates have been reduced
  • There are no residues in meat of treated ewes or their lambs
  • Lasts a single season, allowing farmers to tailor their management plan each year
  • Increased returns in successive seasons as only one shot (booster dose) is required.
